Building stronger communication, coordination, decision-making, and teamwork between flight and cabin crew, and the broader flight operation.
Developing the knowledge and skills cabin crew need to manage safety responsibilities alongside their service role, from briefings and communication to emergency equipment and procedures.
Preparing crew and passengers to respond effectively when an emergency occurs through knowledge, planning, practice, and clear expectations.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is developing a five-course Cabin Safety Management (CSM) series specifically designed for business aviation cabin crew - a program unlike anything previously available in the business aviation industry.
Designed to complement the hands-on cabin safety training cabin crew receive, the series expands the learner’s understanding of cabin safety management, human factors, communication, risk management, emergency preparedness, and safety leadership. The courses provide cabin crew with the knowledge and management perspective needed to move beyond simply responding to safety procedures and toward becoming proactive contributors to their organization’s overall safety culture.
The series launches with CRM for Cabin Safety, the inaugural course, on November 1, 2026. Additional courses will follow as the Cabin Safety Management program continues to develop.
Cabin crew who successfully complete all five courses will earn an Embry-Riddle accreditation in Cabin Safety Management, recognizing their commitment to professional development and excellence in cabin safety.
This innovative program represents an important step forward in establishing cabin safety management as a recognized area of professional expertise within business aviation.

The 1st of 5 ERAU Cabin Safety Management (CSM) Online Courses:

ERAU Online Course: CSM 1000
November 1- November 28, 2026 (4-week course)
Professional Education Instructor: Scott Arnold
CRM is a cornerstone of aviation safety, providing the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance communication, decision-making, teamwork, and situational awareness in dynamic operating environments. While CRM originated in the flight deck, its principles are equally essential for cabin professionals who play a critical role in maintaining the safety and well-being of passengers and supporting the overall flight operation.
This online course explores the application of CRM from a cabin safety perspective, examining the human factors that influence performance, effective communication strategies, authority gradients, workload management, Threat and Error Management (TEM), and safety leadership.
Through practical examples, discussions, and applied assignments, participants will develop strategies to recognize risks, improve team coordination, and strengthen operational decision-making. Whether operating as part of a small crew or within a larger flight department, participants will gain practical tools to enhance safety, professionalism, and operational effectiveness.
